The Georgian Family Battlefields Trip
Thursday 5th April to Sunday 8th April 2018

The History Department & Development Office invites former students, current & past parents, current & past staff on a 4 day and 3 night bespoke trip to the battlefields of the Western Front organised by CGT Battlefields Ltd
80 Spaces available on a first come first served basis. (With High prior interest)

As part of our programme of events to celebrate our 150th Anniversary in 2019, we are organising our first ever Georgian Family Battlefields Trip to remember and honour the OGs who fell in the War.  This trip will offer Georgians a unique insight into the men from our school who lost their lives during the Great War, starting at Ypres in Flanders and then on to Arras before travelling down the Somme, including The Thiepval Memorial where you will learn about George Gradwell (OG 1915 and Head Boy) whose name is inscribed on the largest British War Memorial in the world. 

The package price of the trip is £539 per person. With a single room supplement of £169 per person. With a £200 Deposit required and returned to CGT Battlefields Ltd. The package price includes:


  • Two nights accommodation at the Novotel Hotel in Ypres in a twin/double room
  • one nights accommodation at the Holiday Inn Express Arras in a twin/ double room
  • Buffet breakfast
  • evening meal at the Novotel Ypres on night 1 
  • evening meal at Holiday Inn Express Arras or a local restaurant in Arras on night 3 
  • Lunch and entrance to Hooge crater Museum on day 2 
  • Packed lunches on days 3 and 4 
  • Full services on an executive coach and driver
  • Full touring itinerary
  • Entrance to In Flanders Field Museum
  • Pick-up and drop off at St George's College
  • Return crossings with Eurotunnel on the Folkestone/ Calais route or P&O Ferries on the Dover/Calais route

  • Meals other than those shown

Matt Barham – History teacher at St George’s has led many student trips to the Battlefields of Europe.  

David Walsh - renowned historian and author, with Anthony Seldon, of ‘Public Schools & the Great War’.  David has a wealth of knowledge and will give us an in-depth insight into each of the areas we visit.

Proposed Itinerary:

Day 1 Thursday 5th April 2018

0800   An executive coach (equipped with DVD, monitors and air conditioning will collect guests from St George’s College car park.
1030   Check in at Folkestone or Dover
1130   Crossing Departs
1400   Arrive in Calais
1515   Arrive in Ypres – Battlefield touring Ypres including Tyne Cot and Langemarck cemeteries
1800   Arrive in Ypres & check-in Novotel Ypres
2000   Attend Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate
2045   Dinner at the hotel

Day 2 Friday 6th  April 2018

0700   Breakfast served from 7am 
0830   Depart hotel:
Full day Battlefield touring - Ypres Salient

  • Including In Flanders Field Museum
  • Lunch stop at Hooge Crater museum

1800   Arrive back at hotel

Day 3 Saturday 7th April 2018

0700   Breakfast served from 7am
0830   Depart hotel
Full day Battlefield touring - The Somme
1800   Check in hotel in Arras.
