St George's Reunite

What is the Future Foundation?

The primary focus of the Future Foundation is to raise funds to create an endowment for the St George’s College Assisted Places Scheme and to assist in accelerating funding of Capital projects.

St George’s College Assisted Places Scheme The St George’s Assisted Places Scheme has been established to enable us create a number of places in the Schools each year which will be allocated to children of the requisite academic standards but whose parents cannot afford fees. We are building an endowment fund using the interest to pay the fees of those students receiving assistance, which would be fitting for a Catholic School to provide.

A New Sixth Form Centre and Humanities Building In 2009 construction will begin on a new block to house the Sixth Form and an adjoining Humanities Centre. In the Sixth Form Centre there will be classrooms for the delivery of all those subjects which are specific to the Sixth Form. The old Woburn Block, which was the Junior School when it was on the same site, will be demolished to make space for the new buildings. The current Sixth Form Centre is too small for the numbers we want in the Sixth Form and we need a strong A Level cohort to enable the whole school to flourish. The opportunity of studying A Levels at St George’s should be one that none of our students would want to miss. The new building will complement Southcote House, the staff accommodation. We are seeking donations towards the funding of this major capital project.

British Schools and Universities Foundation Inc - St George's Approval Received:

St George’s College recently received approval by the British Schools and Universities Foundation Inc. The BSUF serves as a ‘catalyst for tax efficient funding’ by US taxpayers towards educational institutions in Britain and the Commonwealth countries. It enables US residents and taxpayers to make a full contribution without being taxed, in a similar way to the service that ‘GiftAid’ offers UK residents.

A wide range of British schools offer the services of the BSUF to their friends and alumni: including Beneden School, Cranleigh School, Eton College and Godolphin and Latymer. A donation to the BSUF needs to clearly state the educational institution it is intended for, and can be by cash, cheque or credit card. The BSUF will accumulate small gifts for a particular establishment until there is enough to make a significant grant, this way alleviating constant bank fees. More information can be found on their website, www.bsuf.org, or please get in contact with Caroline Long in the Development Office on ++44 (0)1932 839352 if you have any queries.

Why was a Development Office set up at St George's?

In the summer of 2003 St George’s College established a Development Office. The purpose of the Development Office is to reach out to all those who have been associated with the School to enable past and current families and friends of St George’s to benefit from the community spirit of the School and to be involved in the long term future of St George’s.

Looking to the future, St George’s will continue its ambitious plan to enhance the facilities by embarking on Phase Two of our long term development plan. St George’s has responded to the need to raise additional income above fee income by establishing a full time Development Office in line with the Governing Body’s wishes to address these plans.

We have two main goals:

* To substantially increase funding for high priority capital projects such as a New Sixth Form Centre

* To establish a permanent significant endowment to provide for a new Assisted Places Scheme

With the support of the Governors, the Josephite Community, the Headmasters and the School community, alongside the Old Georgians, a partnership has been established to work for the ongoing success and future of St George’s. A Development Committee which is representative of the whole Georgian ‘family’ was established in 2003 to form a working party.

Keeping in contact

Since the summer of 2003 we have been working on our extensive database of former students, parents and friends of St George’s and St Maur’s in order to continue to enhance the School’s communication to the Georgian ‘family’. We now have over 8,300 people listed on our database which is updated on a daily basis.

The Development Office contacts former students and friends via newsletters, email and the website and has been encouraged by the number of emails and letters that have been received from past students who until now have lost touch with the School and with school friends. Those that have been able to visit us have enjoyed reminiscing about school days and have enjoyed seeing staff, the school grounds and buildings.

Reunions

The Development Office organises social reunions, events and activities for all former students of St George’s and St Maur’s. See the Events page for 2009 dates.

Our Reunite Pledge

  • To work alongside the Old Georgians’ Association and the St George’s College Society
  • To work with the Careers Department to help co-ordinate career support for former students and current students
  • To provide excellent communications with the Georgian family
  • To help organise events and reunions for all Old Georgians
  • To reunite Old Georgians
  • To organise visits to the School
