A great crowd turned out to watch the game and they were not disappointed as both teams got stuck into each other right from the kick off. The 1st XV’s aggressive defensive press put a lot of pressure on the OGs which eventually resulted in them winning 13 - 5. The first try was the result of some good pick and go work from the forwards at the base of rucks, creating space down the blindside for Christian Jeffery to show his pace as he scored in the corner. The 1st XV continued to pile on the pressure as James Chard slotted a penalty from the opposition 22 metre line after an off side infringement.
The game was far from over at half time and the OGs battled back brilliantly scoring a well worked try from a lineout catch and drive. Sean Fanning emerged from the bottom of the maul to deservedly claim the try, after a good individual performance from him at open side flanker. At 8 - 5 the game was on a knife edge but Michael Hawkins just managed to touchdown after more good rucking from the forwards. Christain Jeffery missed the conversion to leave the score line at 13 - 5.
