On Tuesday 8th January, St George’s College Junior School, Weybridge held its official opening of their newly refurbished School Dining Room and Kitchen.

2008 - Mulberry Hall no children

The modernization of these facilities has taken over a year to achieve and the Junior School now boasts a fantastic up to date state of the art Kitchen and Dining Room area. These facilities will give the pupils a chance to congregate together in a friendly environment for lunch. This will encourage the children to learn social skills by sitting down together to enjoy a meal along with educating the children’s palettes and teaching them about healthy eating.

The new dining facilities has been named The Mulberry Hall, inspired by the Mulberry trees that can still be found on the front lawn of the School. There are three Mulberry trees, two of which are reputed to have been planted as far back as the reign of King James 1 (1603 - 25). There is also reference to the Mulberry trees in an old St Maur’s School Magazine when the Reverend Mother was found to be feeding her silkworms on the leaves of these same Mulberry trees!.

This refurbishment is part of an ongoing programme within the School that has already seen updating of the Chapel, Nursery, Staff room and Library facilities.
