Alumni Cross Country
Every year former students get together in early December to take part in the Old Boys' Cross Country Race - this is a friendly cross country for Old Boys and Girls of various public Schools.
This year's race was held on the 9th December at our usual venue of Wimbledon Common. The Common was a popular venue for races that day so the traditional route was altered slightly.
The day was fine and bright although the recent downpours left the ground rather muddy! This didn't stop our strongest team and I am pleased to report that not only did we field five runners (more than we have for many years) but that the age of our representatives meant that we had a full team of Veterans (V40 = age 40+).
Stalwarts Simon Ludlam (V40), Peter Laws (V40) and Martin Threakall (Open) were joined by one of the very first OG runners, John Coningham-Rolls (V40). Everyone managed a good time and we came an oustanding second in the Vets 40 category, an all-time best for SGC!
(The scorers made an unfortunate error when compiling the overall results which meant SGC were left off the score sheet! We estimate to have finished ninth overall though!).
I look forward to lifting that trophy next year!
