Old Georgian running 90 miles for ME Research

Alexander Miller Tate
Alex Miller Tate (2010 batch) is starting the Toad Challenge on Friday 2nd September. He is running from Oxford to Walton-on-Thames, 90 miles along the Thames Path, over three days this weekend. The distance is just over a marathon distance for each of the three days. He has been training for this for the last 9 months whilst studying Philosophy & Political Science at Birmingham University.
Alex chose ME Research as the charity he wanted to run for because one of his friends became ill with this disease while in the Sixth Form and although she completed her A levels, she had to defer her entry to University to enable her to fully recover. He then met another girl at university who also has this debilitating disease and was forced to suspend her studies after two terms in order to recover fully and start her course again this year. He was impressed by their courage and determination to overcome this disease and lead normal lives.
He feels ME/CFS is not yet understood and that there is a lot of 'misinformation' about it. This is why he decided to try to raise awareness and funds for the charity, ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome)Research.
