Sister Mary
SisterMary
The funeral service for Sister Mary will take place on Friday 27th January at 12 noon at the Christ Prince of Peace in Weybridge with burial at Weybridge cemetery. This will be followed by refreshments in the Church Hall.
Sister Mary was a much loved member of the local community for most of her lifetime. Having been a pupil at St Maur's during the Second World War, she joined the Religious Community of the Sisters of the Infant Jesus soon after and devoted her life to teaching the girls over many decades. After the merger with St George's in 2000, she opted to stay in Weybridge and lived in the cottage by the Nursery in Thames Street. She was a huge support to the priests in the local Catholic parish of Christ the Prince of Peace.
She was always a huge supporter of Old Maurian reunions - the most recent one being the memorial service for Sister Helen Wynne in November - and would invariably be the one of the last to leave, moving from table to table, catching up with all her former proteges' news. Her long life (she was the same age as the Queen, apparently!) meant that her links with the past were wide and varied; however, much as she enjoyed looking back, she was fundamentally a women of Faith who was always looking forward and delighted in the growing strength of the Junior School and College.
Sister Mary was always to be seen surrounded by people who valued her friendship and admired her Faith. She didn't 'suffer fools' and 'told it as it was'. She was a 'one off' and will be much missed over the coming years; the loss is ours but the gain is Our Lord's to whom she was utterly devoted. May she rest in His peace.
Details for the service will be advertised next week.
