MCC Schools XI match at Lords

Nick and team after another wicket in St George’s colours
Over the summer Nick Kent (2011 leaver) was selected to play in the prestigious annual MCC Schools XI match against the English Schools Cricket Association XI at Lords Cricket Ground on Monday.
The XI were selected from the 250 schools the MCC play during the summer term. Previous famous players who have played in this match include the likes of Andrew Strauss (current England Captain) and Andrew Flintoff.
On Sunday a squad of 12 netted at the ground and then had dinner in the players dining room before staying at a local hotel. Before the game Nick was awarded his playing cap by England Captain Andrew Strauss.
Only 8 boys from St George’s have previously played in this match on the main pitch at Lords since 1946, a number, I have been told, only surpassed by Tonbridge School.
Nick not only got selected from the squad of 12 but he then took four wickets including three bowled and the fourth a caught and bowled with a slower ball. Of the three bowled wickets he consecutively knocked out the off, then middle and then leg stump!
He finished with 4 for 46 from 10 overs as the ESCA XI were bowled out for 199. Due to rain the MCC XI had to chase 174 to win and did so with the loss of just three wickets.
Nick’s performance was so impressive he was named Man of the Match.
He received this from Indian cricket legend Mohammed Azharuddin before enjoying dinner in the Long Room with David English as guest speaker.
