The aim of the Old Georgians' Cricket Club is to provide keen, enjoyable and positive cricket against our friendly rivals on the most attractive St George's cricket square on which we are privileged to be allowed to play our matches.
All Old Georgians' cricketers are most welcome to play and are encouraged to apply for the matches which offer good play and companionship. Visitors are always welcome at the games.
Raising teams is in the hands of the Hon Secretary, Brian O'Gorman - firstname.lastname@example.org, Team Secretary, Michael Price - email@example.com, and managers, who work most enthusiastically. There are currently 12 fixtures and three matches on Old Georgians' Day.
With the Old Georgians' Cricket Club fixtures finalised and the printed fixture card shortly to be despatched, OGCC Hon Secretary Brian O'Gorman welcomes all players and spectators to the new season which features a new encounter against a Sri Lankana team now resident in the UK - Isipathani Old Boys.
Brian says that the list of opponents faced by the OGs is always under review and there may be an opportunity for OGs to take over games against Sussex Martlets and Free Foresters, which the College is no longer able to play. This was the case when Emeriti were first added to the list. All three are matches of significance which would be of challenge and interest.
Brian also welcomes the additions of a new Honours' Board book and a new Cricket Week Cup plus the immediacy of the Old Georgians' Facebook page. "In view of the long delays in getting the centuries scored and wickets taken inscribed on the Honours' Board, there will be a book for them to be written in - hand written and kept in a special box, which will be available for display and inspection at every match," said Brian. "This will date from 2013, or earlier - a double page for Batting and Bowling - and space will be left to include any scores that may have been overlooked thus keeping the records and performances in retrospect and written up immediately. This is also much appreciated by our visitors too."
In view of the generally harder feat of taking wickets in these days, Brian has decided that the qualifying number for a bowler will be five wickets. Brian added: "We are very lucky to have a new Cricket Week Cup - presented by Mr Tom Stubbs - to replace the original, sadly mislaid. We are most grateful for this and thank Tom most sincerely and hope that he will present the Cup to the first new winner on President's Day."
It is worth mentioning here that the rubric for the award says that the Cup is given to the person making the most significant contribution to the success of the Cricket Week - so it will not necessarily be won by playing. "I urge all to apply to play. You will be assured of a good day and a warm welcome among your friends. A good way of starting would be to play in the match between two teams of OGs on Old Georgians' Day (June 26th). So, once again, a new season beckons, with all the prospects of enjoyment, achievement and fun. I know you will make every effort to be part of it. I look forward to seeing you at the matches."
